Tower Bersama Group Conducts Batik Design Competition

Jakarta, 23 April 2018 - PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure, Tbk (“TBIG”) conducts final judgment and awarding ceremony of TBIG Batik Design Competition 2018 in Pekalongan, Central Java. TBIG Batik Design Competition 2018 that was held from 15 March to 15 April is part of corporate CSR initiatives in culture field to give positive contribution to the preservation of culture and creative economic development in Indonesia.
New creations of batik pattern are expected as the result from the competition. This competition was open for students, public and batik craftsmen which can enrich the repertoire of Indonesian batik.
Until the end of registration period, there were 108 designs sent by the participants from Central Java, East Java, Lampung, Yogyakarta, DKI Jakarta, Makassar and West Java.
From the registered participants above, the committee selected 10 finalists from each category: Contemporary Design and Traditional Design. The finalists were invited to attend the awarding ceremony at The Sidji Hotel, Pekalongan.
Below are the winners of TBIG Batik Design Competition 2018:
- 1st Winner : Saela from Pekalongan, design title “Lung-Lungan”
- 2nd Winner : Muhammad Furqoon from Pekalongan, design title “Bima Sakti”
- 3rd Winner : Ficky Juliansyah from Jakarta, design title “Go Green”
- 1st Winner : Dwi Fitrianingsih from Klaten, design title “Kombinasi Ceplok Yekso”
- 2nd Winner : Damar Sungkowo from Oku Timur, design title “Seling Kawung”
- 3rd Winner : M. Hafizhuddin Amin from Pekalongan, design title “Telaga Biru”
The winners of each category received prizes of Rp 10 million for the 1st Winner, Rp5 million for 2nd Winner and Rp2.5 million for 3rd Winner.
Chairman of the Committee Lie Si An, who is also Chief of Business Support TBIG said, “This Competition will be conducted periodically to produce new and innovative batik designs.”
In the competition, the participants were challenged to design batik pattern using TBIG’s logo and philosophy and then developed into new patterns that have been publicly recognized such as Batik Kawung, Batik Parang Kusumo, Batik Truntum, Batik Pamiluto and others.
EMPOWERMENT OF FORMER MIGRANT WORKERS
The competition conducted in April was also intended to celebrate Kartini Day which completed by batik and entrepreneurship trainings for former migrant workers. This program was a collaboration between Koperasi Bangun Bersama (“KBB”) which was founded by TBIG, and DEKRANASDA Pekalongan.
“As the preliminary stage, this program was attended by seven participants and we hope it will gather more participants in the future,” said Lie Si An.
The first batch of the training was conducted from 1 to 10 April 2018 and divided into two stages: batik craftsmanship training and producing ready-to-sell batik.
KBB will provide distribution assistance of batik produced by the training participants. After participating in the program, they will receive coaching from KBB to become SME practicioners in creative industry, mainly batik production.
