TBIG Provides Education on TB Prevention and Clean Living Practices in Papua Province
Jakarta, September 23, 2025 – PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure Tbk (TBIG) continues its health education activities in various 3T areas in Indonesia. This time, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province, is the target of implementation. TBIG focuses its activities in two locations, namely Kampung Sosiri in Waibu District and Bhayangkara Village in North Jayapura District.
In this activity, TBIG organized health education to improve health literacy among the people of Papua Province, especially those in Jayapura and its surroundings. The training was given to 320 families in the two villages. This activity impacted around 1,280 people. In addition to health education, TBIG collaborated with Filantra and the local health center to provide free health check-ups, general health screenings, and nutritious food assistance.
Equally important, health education was provided in Sosiri Village, focusing on the prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases, especially tuberculosis (TB), which remains a serious health problem in Indonesia. On this occasion, Dr. Riando Firmansyah Sapoan from the Kanda Community Health Center in Jayapura Regency emphasized that education about communicable and non-communicable diseases is very important for the community. “This activity helps the health center expand its health screening services while also educating the community on how to recognize symptoms and take preventive measures against infectious and non-infectious diseases. Additionally, the aspirations of the surrounding community are also supported by the health services provided by TBIG,” he said.
Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health and WHO (Global TB Report 2023) show that Indonesia ranks second in the world after India in terms of the highest burden of tuberculosis, with an estimated 969,000 cases of tuberculosis in 2022 and a death toll of 93,000 per year. At the regional level, Papua is among the provinces with high TB cases, making promotive and preventive activities in the community essential to raise awareness and strengthen early detection.
Sosiri village traditional leader Muas Asaeno expressed his gratitude and hoped that this activity could be carried out in many places other than Papua. “On behalf of the community, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and hope that this medical treatment activity will not only be carried out here, but also in other places. Furthermore, let's continue to work together for Indonesia.”
The community of Bhayangkara village also expressed their appreciation for TBIG's presence in their neighborhood. “The distance from Bhayangkara to the nearest health center is not close, so we usually have to take a vehicle to get health services. Meanwhile, many residents do not have transportation. This service helps them get services directly without having to travel far,” said one of the residents of Bhayangkara village, Siti Mariana.
TBIG's health pillar program is currently focused on health education for the community to improve health literacy, especially among communities in 3T areas. “Through this action, the benefits are not only felt in the short term, but are expected to have a long-term impact on the quality of life of the community,” explained Lie Si An, Chief of Business Support Directorate.
In a press release issued by TBIG, President Director Herman Setya Budi stated that the implementation of TBIG's CSR is guided by the principles of ESG, SDGs, and ISO 26000. “This is to ensure that TBIG's CSR program can meet the expectations of all company stakeholders,” he explained.
