Rumah Batik TBIG Collaborates with Professional Designers to Create Batik Designs for Young People

Jakarta, May 4, 2026 - Rumah Batik TBIG is partnering with professional designers to foster the creation of batik designs that are more relevant to the younger generation. This collaboration is a strategic move to address the challenge of changing market tastes while strengthening the competitiveness of young batik artists in the fashion industry.

This training program was held from April 21–24, 2026, as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the development of culture-based SMEs. The program is also part of a series of activities aimed at developing young batik artists, which will run through June 2026.

For the young batik artisans mentored by Rumah Batik TBIG, producing high-quality batik has become a core skill acquired through consistent training provided by TBIG’s CSR program. However, evolving market conditions and shifting consumer preferences present new challenges in growing a business in the batik industry.

To address this challenge, TBIG, through its cultural CSR pillar, has partnered with the Indonesia Fashion Chamber (IFC) to share the expertise of its professional fashion designer members in the fields of fashion design and marketing.

This training aims to encourage young batik artists to enter the creative industry ecosystem, particularly in the fashion sector, including gaining an understanding of marketing strategies.

“The challenges faced by young batik artists today lie not only in their ability to create designs, but also in their understanding of the structure of the fashion industry and the global fashion market,” explained Lie Si An, Chief of Business Support at TBIG. She added that it is this readiness to enter the industry that has driven the development of more structured and practice-based advanced training programs for young batik artists.

This training program is designed to strengthen production, design development, and marketing strategies relevant to current market conditions. It builds on previous training programs with a more comprehensive approach, ensuring that participants not only have a solid grasp of the concepts but are also prepared to develop products with strong market appeal. “The main focus of this program is to bridge the gap between skilled batik-making abilities and the competencies required in the fashion industry,” added Lie Si An.

In its implementation, this CSR program from PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure Tbk (TBIG) has partnered with the Indonesia Fashion Chamber as the implementing partner, which plays a role in providing a curriculum, instructors, and a training approach that are relevant to the industry’s needs.

TBIG President Director Herman Setya Budi added that the program is also aimed at strengthening batik’s position in the youth market through a more relevant approach.

“The survival of batik as a cultural heritage depends heavily on its ability to adapt to the tastes of the younger generation. Therefore, in addition to maintaining quality, it is important for businesses to introduce design innovations and marketing strategies that are more in tune with the current market,” he said.

He added that synergy between industry players and the creative community is key to expanding batik’s reach into a broader market.

“Through collaborations like this, we want to encourage batik not only to survive but also to thrive as part of the younger generation’s lifestyle,” he concluded.
