TBIG Holds Health Training in Kalimantan, Supports Government Efforts to Improve Public Health Literacy

In the World Health Promotion Glossary, the WHO explains that cognitive and social skills determine an individual's motivation and ability to obtain, understand, and use information in a way that supports and maintains good health. From this explanation, it is clear that the level of health literacy among the public plays an important role in improving the quality of health in a region.

A journal titled Health literacy and associated factors among patients with chronic diseases in Indonesia, published in March 2025 in the Journal of Public Health (Germany), found that 33% of patients were in the problematic category and 16.2% were inadequate. It can be said that 49% of respondents had low health literacy levels. Meanwhile, other studies in a number of community health centers in Indonesia show a more concerning condition, where 60%–80% of respondents have low and inadequate health literacy.

In response to this, TBIG developed a CSR program in the field of health based on health education and improving the quality of nutrition in 3T areas. During August, TBIG ran a CSR program in the field of health in the form of 3P education (Healthy Lifestyle, Healthy Consumption, and Healthy Sanitation), which impacted 4,204 people on the island of Kalimantan.

"We are grateful and thankful to Tower Bersama Group for organizing the Bangun Sehat Bersama campaign. We gained a lot of new knowledge about maintaining oral and dental health, as well as the proper way to wash our hands. We feel helped and hope that this activity can continue to equip us in terms of health and other matters," said Eva, a resident of Tumbang Tukun Village, Central Kapuas, Central Kalimantan. Not only that, TBIG also provided nutritious food assistance to 2,400 residents in six villages in the provinces of South Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan.

This series of activities is part of the Joint Social Service for Indonesia program, which reaches 80 villages from Aceh to Papua in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

Lie Si An, Chief of Business Support Officer at TBIG, said that TBIG's CSR program focuses on improving the quality of life of the community through health education. "We want to ensure that the community has a good understanding of healthy consumption, sanitation, and healthy lifestyles. Additionally, we distribute nutritious food assistance to support children's growth and development," he explained. He added that by the end of 2025, TBIG aims to implement over 500 similar activities across Indonesia.

TBIG President Director Herman Setya Budi emphasized, "Health is the foundation of human development, and health literacy is key to enabling people to take care of themselves independently. Recent research data shows that nearly half of Indonesians still have low health literacy. This fact is an alarm for all of us, including the business world, to take action. Through health education and nutritional assistance programs, TBIG wants to be present not only as a telecommunications infrastructure provider, but also as a strategic partner of the government in building a healthier and more empowered society. We believe that investing in public health today is an investment in a stronger future for Indonesia," he said.

Herman also added that TBIG bases all its CSR programs on ESG principles, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and ISO 26000 guidelines. “With this approach, we ensure that every CSR program not only has a short-term impact but is also sustainable, inclusive, and relevant to the needs of the community.”
